Her family is having a big party for her tonight and I would loved to have been there, but it is too far to just zip up and back. My first real experience as a missionary happened in my first year at SUSC with Val and Dianne, and it is a time in my life that I will always treasure. It taught me the true joy that comes from sharing the gospel with those we love, and I witnessed it change their lives as Val went on a mission and they were both married in the Temple. They have raised families that have gone on missions and been married in the temple. It has been a joy to watch them raise their families in a completely different way from the way they were raised. I really do have a special relationship with Val. When we are together we can talk forever....and we can go years without seeing each other and pick up talking like we had seen each other a few hrs. before.
I will forever be thankful for these eternal friends and the wonderful experiences I have shared with them. I think it was when I first realized the difference between being happy and experiencing true joy! I hope Val's birthday is wonderful!
